Cat Litter

Image
There are only two humans in our household, and all the rest are cats.  We actually have 5 cats right now:  Chibi, Yani, Rabbit (or Usagi), Kurone (shortcut for Kuroneko), and Maru.  Yes, our cats have Japanese names and we love it that way.  Because of the number of our cats, we have to maintain two litter boxes.  For those who don't know, litter boxes are where cats poo and urinate (I was about to write "pee" but it would sound funny - poo and pee.).  A litter box should be filled with litter and then, cleaned occasionally. Cat's poo should be scooped out of the box, and the litter itself should be changed every two days.  Quite obviously, commercial litter costs money, and so, through the years of taking care of cats, we have different options as to what to use for cat litter.  A litter box usually looks like this: Image from www.users.cloud9.net Image from intermega.net.br During our first few years of taking care of cats, we ...

The Power of Listerine

Image
Yesterday, I blogged about how mouthwash helps kill head lice and lice eggs (nits).  I gave Listerine and Astring-O-Sol as examples.  Of course, Listerine is the more known mouthwash.  Do you know that Listerine used to be advertised as treatment for dandruff?  Here are some old Listerine ads: Image from artofmanliness.com/2009/02/05 Image from blog/modernmechanix.com/2007/10/22 For those who have dreadlocks, they are usually advised to spray mouthwash mixture on their hair or use mouthwash as "shampoo" instead of the usual shampoo.  This is to minimize dandruff on their scalp.

Summer and That Head Itch

Image
It's a blistering summer and one of the problems of summer is here to plague us.  This is one of those blogs where you say "ew" or "yuck" but this is part of everyday life, and so I have to write about it.  I'm talking about head lice. Embarrassing as it may seem, I have to admit that more than 2 years ago, I got infested (yes, "infested" is the proper word to use here) by head lice. And it's not because I had hygiene problems.  It was because I got too near a person who had head lice.  I will not tell you who the person is or where we met but I will give you vague clues.  This person had long hair and she used to talk to me most of the time because she usually asked me questions.  Actually, before I got infested by head lice, I noticed that this person would scratch her head and hair continuously but I had no clue that it was actually head lice.  So, whenever we talked, I still got into close proximity with her.  And the week after those ...

Summer Hairstyle(s)

It's summer here in the P.I. (Philippine Islands - some foreigners call the Philippines "P.I.") and it's horrifyingly HOT.  Yes, it rains every once in a while but the rains are not helping.  After the rain, it becomes more humid, and you can feel your clothes sticking to your body. Yes, it's THAT disgusting.  Thankfully, we live in an elevated barangay (village, district, or ward in other countries), so it is rather cool here even during daytime.  But the problem is when we go to the city center where the urban heat seeps into your bones. The heat from all the concrete around you makes you want to dip yourself in icy waters. But anyway, the reason for all the rant I'm doing here has to do with our hair.  My husband (Daniel) and I have long hair but, in this heat, we tie our hair anyway. Here is an old picture of us with our long hairs (taken in December 2011).  Under his long hair, Daniel also had dread locks (around 10 of them).  As of now, my h...

Lola Geri's 85th Birthday

Image
Today is my maternal grandmother's 85th birthday.  We actually call her Lola Walding, but the name sounds old-fashioned.  So we sometimes call her Lola Geri to make her name sound modern.  Her first name is Gertrudes.  Don't you think "Lola Geri" sounds better than "Lola Walding"?   For her 85th birthday, the family had lunch at Tita Ping's (Shopping area, Bacolod City).   Lola Walding and I

Why Blogger? Why Koolkolourz?

Image
Before posting anything on my thoughts, ideas, or opinions, I believe it is best to answer the question "Why start a blog at Blogger?"  Well, I've noticed that everything on the Internet is connected.  I have my gmail account (I gave up on Yahoo Mail years ago -- don't ask why!), I have a YouTube account, and I have a Google+ account.  I can actually connect all of them.  And then, it dawned on me that I can also "connect" my blog to Google by "transferring" my blog to Blogger.  So, that's why I'm here.  Truth is, before finally deciding on settling on this blog, I have had many blogs in many different sites that sometimes I even forgot what my usernames and passwords are in those different sites.  Now, because my entire life is in Google, everything is connected and I only have to remember one username and one password. Whew!  If my online life in Google will work out fine, I might actually give up my other personal sites.  Presently, I h...
